Counseling

Survivors often experience anxiety, depression, or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after an assault. Counselors at SARC are licensed and experienced with providing critical mental health services for helping to process trauma related to sexual assault. They can help to guide survivors down a path of recovery with a safe, empathetic space to support their healing journey.

Individual Therapy

sarc counseling

After completing an intake with a SARC counselor, their first goal is to help the survivor restore a sense of autonomy and control in their lives. Survivors can work one-on-one with the counselor for an individualized therapy plan adapted to their specific needs. SARC can provide counseling to survivors at no cost, regardless of how long ago their assault happened or if it was ever reported.

We know sexual assault can also leave a lasting impact on survivors’ loved ones. We offer counseling support for partners, family, and friends to help foster communication and strengthen their relationships in the wake of an assault.

Support Groups & Other Options

Oftentimes, recovery is most impactful when survivors heal together. SARC is working to provide empowering group sessions wherein survivors can collaborate and not feel alone. If you are interested in joining a support group, please fill out the form below, and a counselor will be in touch with availability.

Mental and emotional well-being can be just as important as physical well-being after experiencing a traumatic event. We want every survivor to have the chance to access a healing plan that works best for them. Counselors can connect survivors with spiritual leaders or other specialized therapy resources catering to their unique mental health needs.

In February 2026, SARC has started a new virtual support group for adult survivors to connect in a confidential, healing-focused environment. Survivors must be 18 years old or older, and the group is open to all gender identities.

Groups meet every other Thursday 11:00am – 12:00pm on an online platform. In order to participate, contact Caroline (caroline@sarcgeorgia.org) to schedule an intake.
